Jazz quartet feat. Derek Nash on sax

Join us for another fabulous evening of jazz with this quartet featuring Derek Nash - British Jazz Award-winning bandleader, composer, arranger, record producer and engineer - one of the UK’s busiest jazz musicians. He is leader of six bands, each with its own unique sound and featuring some of the top jazz musicians in the UK today.

Derek has been a full-time member of the Jools Holland Rhythm & Blues Orchestra since 2004 and is also a member of the Ronnie Scott’s Blues Explosion.  With these bands, he has enjoyed sharing the stage with many great artists including Tom Jones, Eric Clapton, David Sanborn, Jack Bruce, Amy Winehouse, Michael Bublé and Sir Paul McCartney.  He is one of the most in-demand and respected guest instrumentalists for jazz clubs across the UK and has received numerous nominations in the British Jazz Awards. www.dereknash.com

He will be accompanied by former local, now London-based stellar guitarist Sam Plackett, talented double bassist Simon Wood, who is equally at home playing classical concerts and local jazz jam organiser Elmer van der Hoek on drums.

If you've been to a jazz@patch you'll know you're in for a great time - if not, give us a go. It would be lovely to see you!

Electro Music, Poetry & Songs at Patch

A night of live poetry, songs and electronic music to lift your spirits & inspire you as we begin 2025!

Featuring Live Performances By:

Dawn Vincent, poet who describes themselves as a, "poet with a colourful but irritating brain they like to write about. Tries to be funny. Sometimes is. But a hopeful human? Always".
Instagram: @dawnislosingtheplot

Filip Rodak, electronic artist
Filip Aleksander Rodak, going online by a contraction of his first and last name "filiprodak", is a 17 year old music producer and songwriter based out of England. He began producing his own music at the age of 12, after discovering music apps on his father's phone. Since then, after his discovery of FL Studio, he was hooked, and has been producing tracks almost non-stop. Filip mainly draws inspiration from the golden era of EDM in his music, influenced by his idols: Madeon, Justice, Daft Punk, Porter Robinson, etc. He also manages to sneakily sprinkle in the aesthetics of disco, accenting his tracks with violin stabs, phased guitars and synths, making his sound recognisable, but unique.
Instagram: @filiprodak7

Fenix Wild: Indietronica Singer-songwriter
London born Fenix moved to Essex in 2020. Originally a classically trained singer and pianist, she writes with acoustic instruments, synths, and electronic beats to create songs that embody her signature sound. Lyrics include themes of love, divinity, gratitude, nature, loss, and the passage of time, with listeners describing her songs as uplifting, soaring, emotive, and soothing.
Performances feature projections of Fenix's visual art, created outdoors from man-made, organic and futuristic images to form colourful shadows for each song.

It's the @colchesterfringe !

My BF Wouldn't Buy A Stupid Window (Why I Did and Don't Regret It) (@mybfwouldntbuyastupidwindow) is a brand new, queer stand-up show about a neurodivergent queer man and his obsession over a window found in a thrift sale.

The show is based on sex-icon and amateur comedian Jake Halimi's personal experiences as we follow him from his first encounter with the titular window to its tragic end (and how it almost destroyed his relationship with his boyfriend). The story centres around exploring autism, particularly hyperfixation, and feelings of self-worth. It thoughtfully and hilariously suggests how we get by when our love is an ocean away.

Private View of the patch gallery’s latest exhibit - Meraki by Beth Holmes

Meraki, ‘to do something with soul, creativity or love; to put something of yourself in your work. To love what you do, is to do it well.’ Beth Holmes (b. 1995, UK). I am a painter based in West Mersea, UK. I studied Fine Art: Painting at The University of Brighton and graduated in 2018. My practice is concerned with the language of painting. Within the domain of abstraction, my visual dialogue aims to investigate the importance of gesture and the painted mark. I focus greatly on the therapeutic qualities a painting can evoke both for the artist and viewer. My process of picture making aims to allow a sense of identification through a visually stimulating language of texture and mark.
